As a writer I am supposed to be descriptive. For some reason, which is beyond me, political correctness seems to prohibit this.
Case in point
Under the terms of political correctness the song about the one eyed, one eared, flying, purple people eater should be banned.
Why you may ask?
Is it not obvious? We are not supposed to make references to color or disability! What if it has traumatic memories about how it lost the other eye and ear? You might permanently damage its psyche!
Now, is it a purple people eater because it is purple and eats people or because it eats purple people? If it only eats purple people then it is prejudiced in its own right. What, other colors of people not as good?
In any case, especially in an age when obesity is so prevalent, should we be talking about its dietary habits anyway?
Flying is an exclusionary term; something we are admonished not to use. You might leave the one eyed, one eared, land based, purple, people eaters feeling disenfranchised.
At this point we have eliminated the following:

One eared

Flying

Purple
-
People eater
So I ask, what can I call this creature?
